Gold!

The hometown boys did it! St. John's nearly ground to a halt this afternoon to watch the game. Schools closed at noon and in offices like mine, where there is a TV, lunch was ordered in and all work ceased to watch the game. And it was beautiful to behold.

We're not used to producing Olympic gold medallists here. It's a small city, only about 105,000, in a province of about 500,000 compared to the 30,000,000 in all of Canada. It's not a big pool from which to draw your talent.

It was, in a word, sweet.

P.S. - This is my 100th post. I coudn't possibly think of a better topic for it than this.

And they made it to the front page of Canada's National Newspaper (online edition):

Jolly well done, you Labradogs.

However, I must point out that I've got three 2004 Olympic medallists living on my street alone. You can't move round here for red-hot Yachting bling.

Woohoo, rah!

Congrats on the curly stuff, but more important - your 100th, post!

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay,w00t!

Oh. And I left a post about the badgers earlier, but it seems to have disappeared. Or got eaten by the remaining badgers. Anyhoo, they're on their way home now, with mango chutney pizzas to sustain them for the duration.

w00t! indeed. Who'd a thunk?

Has Blogger been eating posts again? Sigh...

Thanks for returning the badgers. They'll come in handy for shovelling and all tomorrow.

Also: if properly trained, badgers make a handy sled-pulling team in the Alaskan stylee.

Scaryduck - We need to talk. Preferably before you try to harness up a team of badgers.

Mr. Faboo - The badger references or curling? Think of curling as shuffle board on ice. Kind of. As for the badgers, it's a long and somewhat sordid tale. You really don't want to know.

I'll swap curling gold for the hockey gold? A week of Tre Kronor tedium in Sweden.... and snow!

ian - I sympathize, I really do, but NO! The curling team was local, you see. Besides the women won the hockey. Mwa ha ha!

But yeah, I wish the guys had gotten gold, too. Maybe next time.
