We don't have this tradition down here, at least I've never seen it. If people in hoods or with covered faces come to the door here, you look for the burning cross in the yard*...
*may be slightly exaggerated for comedy purposes. Or not.
People don't do it much here in the city, either, but in the smaller communities you know everyone, so it's safe. Part of the game is to gues who's in those crazy get-ups. if you did it in the city, they'd call the Constabulary on you.
